Creating quality content is something that creatives and everyday people who live for the Instagram aesthetic sometimes struggle with. Although with the proper know-how and outlook, creating great content is just a few steps away.
1. Find your niche
Finding your own thing is the most important part of creating content. If you’re not sure what you want to focus on, the main goal and message will end up being convoluted. You can find this niche through a number of ways. Chances are its something that you already love to do and just haven’t thought of making something more of it yet.
2. Invest
When I say invest, I don’t mean that you need to go out and buy a thousand dollar camera and extra equipment to be able to get the results and quality that you want or need to succeed. In terms of equipment, an iPhone and the proper editing tools can go a long way. If your niche has something to do with photography and you’ve grown to be serious about turning your hobby into something more professional, expensive equipment may be the way to go.
That goes to say though, before investing your money into something, investing your time is way more valuable. Deciding how often and how much you want to work on creating content is an important aspect to consider before making any major decisions. starting and dropping projects is often the reality. But in order to prevent this from potentially wasting a lot of your time, researching and learning about what it is you want to create is key. Looking at other creator’s content and how they do things is a good way to not only gain inspiration but to build a good basis of knowledge.
3. Be consistent
Once you’ve figured out what you’re going to focus on and how much time you’re going to dedicate to creating content, being consistent is the one essential way that you will grow as a creator. Without consistency it is easier to lose motivation or easily distract yourself. More so, if you’re someone who wants to work with brands, being inconsistent with public posts will not help in getting brands interested in working with you. I cannot stress how important this step is and if you are consistent I can assure you great things will eventually happen.
4. Be creative
there are so many ways to be creative, even when you’re going through a bit of a mind block. There is Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram, Blogs, Vlogs, and an endless amount of art out there that can inspire you.
One thing that really helps me is creating mood boards and creating a sort of colour coordinated feed that gives off a particular mood. Brainstorming and jotting down ideas is also something that can help. Chances are, you are more likely to get something done or go through with an idea if you write it down.

5. Have fun
Lastly, have fun! if you aren’t having fun anymore return back to the first step where you found your niche and ask yourself if your interests lie somewhere else.
If it’s not that, put a spin on things and enjoy yourself. The more you enjoy making your content the more it will show when you present it to your audience. One of my teachers always told me that “you are most rewarded when you’ve stepped out of your comfort zone”.
Pro Tip: Collaborate with others as well, its part of the fun of being a content creator after all! It will open connections and doors you didn’t even imagine possible.
